Candle Care Made Easy: Tips for a Better, Safer Burn

Keep it simple. Keep it cozy. Keep it safe.

We believe candles should bring peace into your life—not extra work or worry. That's why we've put together this easy candle care guide to help you get the most out of every flame safely. Just a few simple habits can make your candle burn longer, cleaner, and safer—so you can relax and enjoy the glow with complete peace of mind.

🕯️ 1. Trim the Wick Before Every Burn

Before you light your candle, trim the wick to about ¼ inch using wick trimmers or nail clippers. This helps prevent smoke, soot, flickering flames, and dangerous flare-ups. A properly trimmed wick gives you a calm, steady burn every time and reduces fire risk.

🔥 2. For the First Burn

For your first burn, let the candle burn for up to 4 hours to establish a proper melt pool. This helps prevent "tunneling," where wax builds up around the sides and wastes your candle. The wax may or may not reach the edges of the jar on the first burn—that's perfectly normal with natural soy wax.

Important: Never leave a burning candle unattended during this longer initial burn.

⏳ 3. Burn Safely: 4 Hours Maximum

Candles love balance, and safety comes first. Never burn your candle for more than 4 hours at a time. Longer burns can cause:

  • Wick mushrooming and dangerous flare-ups
  • Overheating of the container
  • Wick shifting or becoming unstable
  • Excessive smoke and soot

Always extinguish your candle after 4 hours and let it cool completely before relighting.

🏠 4. Choose a Safe Location

Always place your candle:

  • On a stable, heat-resistant surface
  • Away from flammable materials (curtains, papers, decorations)
  • Out of reach of children and pets
  • Away from fans, vents, or open windows to prevent drafts
  • At least 12 inches apart from other candles

Never place candles:

  • On or near anything that can catch fire
  • In bedrooms where you might fall asleep
  • Where they can be knocked over easily

💨 5. Keep It Draft-Free

Place your candle away from fans, vents, or open windows. Wind or drafts can cause dangerous flickering, uneven burning, smoking, or even cause the flame to jump to nearby materials. Create a calm, protected corner—your candle will burn safer and more beautifully.

👀 6. Never Leave Unattended

Critical Safety Rule: Never leave a burning candle unattended. Always extinguish candles when:

  • Leaving the room
  • Going to sleep
  • Leaving your home
  • The flame gets too high or flickers repeatedly

Use a candle snuffer or gently blow out the flame—never use water to extinguish.

🧼 7. Keep the Wax Clean

If you see bits of wick, matches, or debris in your wax, extinguish the candle, let it cool completely, then gently remove debris before relighting. Clean wax helps your candle burn better, safer, and stay beautiful.

❌ 8. Stop Burning When ½ Inch of Wax Remains

When your candle has about ½ inch of wax left at the bottom, it's time to say goodbye. Burning too low can:

  • Overheat the jar and cause cracking
  • Damage the surface beneath
  • Create a fire hazard

Use the last bit as a wax melt or simply enjoy the remaining scent.

🚨 Emergency Safety

If your candle container cracks or breaks:

  • Extinguish immediately
  • Do not touch hot wax or glass
  • Let cool completely before handling

If the flame becomes too large or unstable:

  • Extinguish immediately
  • Trim wick and check for debris before relighting

✅ Storage & Care

Keep your candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat sources. This helps preserve the scent, color, and prevents warping—especially important with natural soy wax. Store with lids on to prevent dust and maintain fragrance.

A Little Care Goes a Long Way

With these simple safety steps, your candle will burn brighter, longer, and more beautifully—every time. Most importantly, you can enjoy the calm knowing you're burning safely. Light up, relax, and let the peaceful moments begin.

Remember: When in doubt, blow it out. Your safety is always worth more than any candle.
